Welcome to the Eastbluff Branch afterschool kindergarten program, MIGHTY MINNOWS! We at the Eastbluff Branch of the Boys & Girls Club of the Harbor Area are eager to provide your child with an exciting and educational experience this year. We will provide an incredible opportunity for your child to play, grow, and learn outside of the classroom by participating in activities such as: athletics, group projects, art projects, holiday parties, and more! 

Additionally, we will build on what your child is learning throughout the day by incorporating their school curriculum into our program. We will have a designated time each day for classroom activities that will enrich your child’s school learning experience, as well as a time for homework assistance. 

We are excited to welcome you into the MIGHTY MINNOWS program as well as the Boys & Girls Club family. We look forward to many years of enriching your child’s social, emotional, and educational growth.

THE FISHBOWL 

Our Kindergarten classroom is center-based. A center-based classroom is divided into various environments such as Dramatic Play, Manipulatives, Reading, Writing, Blocks, Art, and Science. Each center is equipped with the various items necessary for each activity.

 

Dramatic Play – Children are given the opportunity to enhance language and social skills. Children are encouraged to explore differences of gender and culture and to appreciate the uniqueness of the individual.

 Manipulatives – Children are given the opportunity to enhance small motor abilities including hand-to –eye coordination. Children are encouraged in their emergent understanding of basic mathematical concepts.

Reading – Children are given the opportunity to develop a love of books and language. They are encouraged to look at the books, listen to stories, and to respect the importance of reading.

Writing – The writing center gives children the opportunity for many different writing experiences. Writing experiences are real and purposeful for the individual student and will spark the children’s desire to write.

Blocks – The block center is a great way for the children to explore their creative side and is always one of our most popular areas. Children also develop motor skills and the ability to share and work with others.

Art- The art center is equipped with art and craft supplies that are always accessible to the children.

Science - The science center is a place where students can observe, hypothesize, investigate, and record their findings.
